ASU Livestock Judging Team in Top 5 in Fort Worth
Angelo State University’s newly revived Livestock Judging Team had a strong showing at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo competition on Feb. 5, finishing fifth out of 12 teams and earning several top individual honors.
The ASU team scored 4,391 points and finished behind only Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University, University of Arkansas and Kansas State University in the overall standings. The ASU team also finished third in sheep judging.
Individually for ASU, Beth Forehand of Carlsbad, N.M., finished second in sheep judging, fourth in oral reasons and fifth overall. Meagan Stephens of Clinton Corners, N.Y., finished 14th overall for ASU.
Other ASU team members are Derrick Drury of San Antonio, Scott Halfmann of Wall, Logan Newsom of San Angelo and Blaine Walker of Garden City. ASU’s Agriculture Department brought back its Livestock Judging Team this semester after a 10-year absence.
Next up for the team are the Dixie National contest in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday, Feb. 12, the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo contest Feb. 19, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo contest March 15.
Meanwhile, ASU’s Wool Judging Team will compete at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo on Saturday, Feb. 12, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo March 15.
