ASU Club Café to Feature ‘Last Comic Standing’ Winner

Felipe Esparza, winner of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” 2010 season, will take the stage for Angelo State University’s Club Café coffeehouse entertainment series on Wednesday, March 2, the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The 7:30 p.m. performance in the University Center’s C.J. Davidson Conference center is the first Club Café event of the spring semester.

ASU student tickets will be presold through Friday, Feb. 25, for $2. Beginning Monday, Feb. 28, through Wednesday, March 2, tickets will be available to the public for $5. Any remaining tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis at the door.

The first 100 audience members to arrive at the show will receive a free Club Café coffee mug. Coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, cookies, brownies and other refreshments will be served.

Esparza draws his comedy material from real-life situations that audiences encounter every day. His signature shoulder-length “flyaway” hair and catch phrase, “What’s up, fool?,” make him instantly recognizable to his fans. The East Los Angeles product broaches and makes fun of any subject.

That led him to Showtime’s “Diamonds in the Rough” program, and from there to numerous television appearances, including ABC’s “Comics Unleashed,” Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” Showtime’s “Comics Without Borders,” BET’s “Comic View” and Galavision’s “Que Locos.”

He has also appeared in two feature-length films, “The Deported” with Nick Turturro, Talia Shire and Paul Rodriguez, and “I’m Not Like That No More,” which is based on his stand-up routine and also features Rodriguez.
