Local Entrepreneur to Address ASU Business Class
Local businessman Lloyd Norris, who along with his family has already benefitted Angelo State University students by funding the College of Business’ Norris Family Chair in International Business, will bring his entrepreneurial expertise directly to ASU students later this month.
A 1973 graduate of ASU and former chairman of the board of Town & Country Food Stores, Norris and his family donated $1 million to ASU in 2007 to establish the university’s first endowed chair. The first holder of the Norris Family Chair is Dr. Detelin Elenkov, and it is Elenkov’s class that will further benefit from Norris’ business experiences during his presentation on Monday, Jan. 24.
Norris began working part time at Town & Country Food Stores in 1970 while still attending ASU, then joined the company fulltime in 1973. He became chairman of the board in 2004.
An active member and past president of the ASU Alumni Association, Norris and his wife, Sheri, have also been involved in the ASU Host Family Program where volunteers serve as surrogate parents for international students attending ASU. Over the years, they have hosted students from Zimbabwe, India, Germany, Bangladesh and Russia. They have also provided monetary support for construction of a new ASU baseball clubhouse that will bear their name upon completion.
Norris’ presentation on entrepreneurship will begin at 6 p.m. in Room 103 of the ASU Rassman Building, 2222 Dena Drive, and will be followed by a question and answer session.
