ASU Small Business Center to Host Workers’ Comp Seminar
Angelo State University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host an educational seminar on Texas Workers’ Compensation on Thursday, July 21, at the West Texas Training Center, 3501 N. U.S. Highway 67.
The seminar, titled “Workers’ Comp 101: Workers’ Compensation Overview for Texas Employers,” is designed for employers, business owners, business managers, human resource managers, health and safety officers, vocational counselors and insurance professionals. Sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The featured speaker will be Danny Taylor, return to work education coordinator for the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (TDI-DWC). Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided.
Included in the seminar will be a comprehensive overview of the Texas Workers’ Compensation system and discussion of the Return-to-Work program. Information will also be provided on the roles and responsibilities of system participants; functions of the Office of Injured Employee Counsel; functions and services provided by the TDI-DWC to system participants; medical and income benefits in a claim and the process of resolving benefits disputes; and how to successfully return employees to work after a workplace injury.
Cost for the seminar is $45 per person, and payment can be made in advance or at the door. However, the registration deadline is July 19. Attendees can earn six general insurance continuing education credits by providing their license number at the seminar.
