ASU Music Professor to Present Recital
Dr. Tim Bonenfant, Angelo State University associate professor of music, will present a faculty recital on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the ASU Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
The clarinet and bass clarinet performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Carr Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall, and is open free to the public.
Bonenfant will perform “Treny Laments I,” a world premiere bass clarinet version of a Virko Baley piece originally written for bassoon. Also on the program are three pieces written by Bela Kovacs taken from a set published as “Hommages” to Johann Sebastian Bach, Aram Khachaturian and Manuel de Falla.
Rounding out the program will be “The Evening News,” a piece written specifically for Bonenfant; “Gra” by Elliott Carter; “Improvisation on a Martial Inversion” by British composer Paul Harvey; “Theme and Variations on Familie Pumpernickel” by Anton Stadler; and “Three Pieces for Clarinet” by Igor Stravinsky.
Bonenfant directs the ASU Jazz Ensemble, Clarinet Choir and Saxophone Quartet. He is also a member of the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, West Texas Jazz Orchestra, Mesquite Trio and Tempest Trio. He holds advanced music degrees from the California Institute for the Arts and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
