ASU Students to Perform Opera Music Theatre Workshop Program
Angelo State University music and drama students will present selections from Broadway hit musicals in the Opera Music Theatre (OMT) Workshop Scenes Program on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
The performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall and is open free to the public.
Drawing from well-known Broadway musicals, the program will include scenes from “The Phantom of the Opera,” “A Chorus Line,” “Next to Normal,” “The Fiddler on the Roof,” “Aida,” “Annie Get Your Gun” and “The Pirates of Penzance.”
The OMT Workshop, taught by Dr. Christine Buckstead, ASU assistant professor of music, provides music and drama students with an opportunity to gain stage experience by working on scenes and musical numbers taken from operas, operettas and musicals. In the class, students broaden their theatrical experience through song, dance, directing, choreography and character development while they explore the facets of musical dramatic works in a workshop setting.
