ASU Biologist Receives Parks/Wildlife Grant to Study Skunks

Regents of the Texas State University System (TSUS) Friday okayed construction projects for Angelo State University during a routine session in Beaumont.

Meeting on the Lamar University campus, the board approved work on new ASU Intramural Fields to include parking lot modifications, parking lot lighting and site work at an estimated cost of $550,000.

The board also awarded a contract of $350,300 to Mark Burk Construction Co. of San Angelo for Athletic Field modifications and accepted renovations of the West Texas Training Center at a total cost of $2.6 million and the Houston Harte University Center at a final cost of $10.7 million.

Regents also authorized the acceptance of bids for a scoreboard in Stephens Arena of the Junell Center. The bid package includes two endwall scoreboards, one of which will include a 9-foot by 12-foot video screen, and a set of double-sided game/shot clocks, three locker room clocks and two scorer tables with scoreboard. Total cost is not to exceed $400,000.

Regents renewed the contract for custodial services with Marcis & Associates, Inc., of Spring at an annual cost of $653,077; added four courses in the Kinesiology Department to support the exercise science degree plan option; and approved cooperative agreements between the University and 37 West Texas school districts for student teaching programs.

Finally, the board adopted routine personnel items and budget adjustments; heard reports on spring enrollment figures and the Access and Equity 2000 Narrative document; and accepted $637,469 in gifts to ASU
