2001 Junior ROTC Drill Meet Scheduled Saturday

Angelo State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will host the annual 2001 Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Drill Meet 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 31, adjacent to the Rassman Building on the ASU campus.

Teams from 11 high schools will compete in the meet. The drill competition will consist of armed, unarmed and color guard with inspection, regulation and exhibition phases in each category. A total of 42 trophies and medals will be awarded with the overall winner taking home the Robert G. Carr Memorial Grand Champion Rifle.

Participating high schools will include Central, Abilene Cooper, Corsicana, Del Rio, John Jay, Judson, Lakeview, O.W. Holms, Roosevelt, Samuel Clemens and Taft. Most of these schools have participated in the drill meet in the past and continue to return. The drill meet, first held in 1978, has become an ASU tradition.

The judges for the drill meet will be Air Force volunteers from Goodfellow AFB's NCO Academy, 17th Training Squadron Military Training Leaders and the Goodfellow AFB Honor Guard. Lunch will be provided for the participating JROTC cadets by the local Air Force Association (AFA) chapter.
