2001 Homecoming Activities Set for ASU

A full schedule of activities has been lined up Monday through Sunday (Oct. 15-21) as Angelo State University celebrates its 2001 Homecoming around the theme of "Rams 2001: A Sports Odyssey."

Campus activities will be at their peak Friday and Saturday with the Wells Fargo Alumni Scholarship Dinner Friday evening, the Homecoming Parade Saturday afternoon and the homecoming game Saturday evening against Northeastern State University.

The Wells Fargo Alumni Scholarship Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in the C.J. "Red" Davidson Conference Center in the Houston Harte University Center on the ASU campus. Tickets cost $15 each and are available by contacting the ASU Alumni Association at (325) 942-2122.

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday along Vanderventer Avenue and Johnson Street on the ASU campus. Activities will culminate with the homecoming game at 7 p.m. in San Angelo Stadium.

Activities will begin Monday with the first round of an ASU Weakest Link Contest at 3 p.m., the homecoming court nominee presentations at 6:30 p.m. and the Mr. and Ms. ASU contest at 8:30 p.m., all in the Houston Harte University Center.

On Tuesday, a student Scavenger Hunt will begin at 5 p.m. at the ASU Pavilion and the ASU Weakest Link Contest will continue at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center.

Wednesday activities will include the Distinguished Homecoming Scholar Contest at 2 p.m. and the ASU Homecoming Talent Show at 7 p.m., both in the University Center. Also at 7 p.m. the ASU Rambelles will have a volleyball match against the University of the Incarnate Word in the Center for Human Performance.

On Thursday the Student Senate will conclude the elections for homecoming king and queen. The Student Organizational Carnival is set for 7-10 p.m. at the ASU Pavilion.

Friday will be a full day of activities starting at 2 p.m. when the Rambelle soccer team faces Northeastern State at the ASU Soccer Complex. At 6 p.m. the ASU Alumni Association will host its Golden Exes Reception in the University Center. It will be followed by the Wells Fargo Alumni Scholarship Dinner, also in the University Center.

The Beating of the Drum begins at 8 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and will be followed at 8:30 p.m. by the Pep Rally. At 9:15 p.m. the Torch Parade will lead fans from the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex to the site of the bonfire, which will begin at 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Knickerbocker Road and University Avenue. A Homecoming Dance will follow from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the University Center.

Saturday's activities begin with the West Central Wireless West Central Net Homecoming Golf Tournament at San Angelo Country Club. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with shotgun tee at 8:30 a.m.

The Detachment 847 Air Force ROTC 30-year reunion brunch is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center. After the 2 p.m. Homecoming Parade, a reunion of ASU track and field alumni is scheduled 3-5 p.m. at Bentwood Country Club. A University Center worker and University Center Program Council reunion is scheduled at the same time in the University Center.

The football game begins at 7 p.m. against Northeastern State University with the Homecoming King and Queen announced at halftime. Alumni Association honorees will also be recognized at halftime.

An alumni mixer is scheduled after the game at Mejor Que Nada at 1911 S. Bryant Boulevard.

Homecoming activities will conclude Sunday with a soccer match when ASU takes on East Central University at 2 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
