Mozart Work to be Performed by ASU Students at Cactus Hotel

The Angelo State University Department of Art and Music will present Act I of "Cosi fan tutte," a comic opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the historic Cactus Hotel.

The performance will take place in the lobby of the Cactus Hotel at 36 E. Twohig in downtown San Angelo. Admission for the performance is free.

The opera, set in late 18th century Naples, is a wonderful example of Mozart's mature style, with intricate but flowing melodies, playful accompanimental lines and a plot full of misunderstandings, wrong assumptions and competing love and laughter.

The cast includes Angela Lindley, Candace Stahl, Luis Ocada, Justin Yates and Russell Watkins, all senior music majors, and Amanda Trowbridge, a senior elementary education major. All are members of ASU's Opera-Music Theater Workshop. The production is directed by Dr. Tamara Watson, assistant professor of music at ASU.

The opera will be performed in Italian with scene synopsis and word-by-word translations provided.
