Busy Weekend Scheduled for ASU Homecoming

The campus of Angelo State University will be abuzz with activities as hundreds of former students return to campus Friday and Saturday (Oct. 19-20) to celebrate their college days with old friends during Homecoming 2001.

Activities will revolve around the theme of "Rams 2001: A Sports Odyssey" and will culminate with the Saturday night football game against Northeastern State University. At halftime the homecoming king and queen will be announced and Alumni Association honorees will be recognized.

Friday activities include a 2 p.m. Rambelle soccer match against Northeastern State at the ASU Soccer Complex.

At 6 p.m. the ASU Alumni Association will host its Golden Exes Reception in the University Center. The Wells Fargo Alumni Scholarship Dinner, also in the University Center, will follow at 7 p.m. Information is available by contacting the Alumni Association at 942-2122.

The Beating of the Drum begins at 8 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and will be followed at 8:30 p.m. by the Pep Rally. At 9:15 p.m. the Torch Parade will lead fans from the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex to the site of the bonfire, which will begin at 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Knickerbocker Road and University Avenue. A Homecoming Dance will follow from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the University Center.

Saturday's activities begin with the West Central Wireless West Central Net Homecoming Golf Tournament at San Angelo Country Club. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with shotgun tee at 8:30 a.m.

The Detachment 847 Air Force ROTC 30-year reunion brunch is set 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center. After the 2 p.m. Homecoming Parade, a reunion of ASU track and field alumni is scheduled 3-5 p.m. at Bentwood Country Club. A University Center worker and University Center Program Council reunion is scheduled at the same time in the University Center.

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday along Vanderventer Avenue and Johnson Street on the ASU campus.

The football game begins at 7 p.m. against Northeastern State University with the homecoming king and queen announced at halftime. Alumni Association honorees will also be recognized at halftime.

An alumni mixer is scheduled after the game at Mejor Que Nada at 1911 S. Bryant Boulevard.

Homecoming activities will conclude Sunday with a soccer match when ASU takes on East Central University at 2 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
