Family Day Activities to Culminate Saturday with ASU-West Texas A&M Game

A variety of activities are scheduled Saturday, Sept. 29, as Angelo State University celebrates Family Day 2001 to recognize and thank the families of ASU students for their contributions to the collegiate successes of their sons and daughters.

The activities will culminate with the football game between ASU and West Texas A&M University at 7 p.m. in San Angelo Stadium. Complimentary tickets will be available to the family members of students enrolled at ASU. Family Day is designed to recognize parents as well as spouses, siblings, grandparents and other family members of ASU students.

Sponsored by the ASU Student Senate, Family Day 2001 will begin with campus tours offered every 30 minutes between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday. Tours will start at the High Rise Residence Halls.

Also at 2 p.m. the ASU Rambelles will host a volleyball game with Eastern New Mexico University in the Center for Human Performance. Parents will be admitted free to the game, provided they are accompanied by their ASU student showing a current Student ID card.

Two showings of "Galaxies," which takes viewers on a journey through the cosmos, are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at the Angelo State University Planetarium in the Vincent Nursing-Physical Science, 2333 Vanderventer. Admission price is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children and senior citizens and free for ASU students, faculty and staff

Then a barbecue dinner is scheduled at the Pavilion adjacent to the High Rise Residence Halls. Food will be served 4:30-6 p.m. The "Parents of the Year Award" will be presented at 5:30 p.m. during the dinner. Cost for the barbecue is $5 per person. ASU students on Meal Plan A or who have meals remaining on their weekly Plan B program may eat free.

Activities will then move to San Angelo Stadium for the Pre-Game Pep Rally. Kickoff for the ASU-West Texas A&M game will begin at 7 p.m. Complimentary football tickets to the game will be available through Friday at the Information Desk in the Houston Harte University Center and on Saturday at all Family Day events.

In a message to the families of ASU students, Student Body President Charles Landers said, "We take this time to say 'thank you' to you the parents and family for your long hours and hard work in preparing our fellow students for their college careers. The impact you have made in their lives and ours deserves recognition, to say the least."
