ASU Wind Ensemble to Perform Feb. 12 Prior to D/FW Tour

The Angelo State University Wind Ensemble will present "Overtures, Marches and Songs" during a free concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the University Auditorium on campus.

The concert title reflects the variety of music on the program and the rich history of music for band. Compositions to be performed will include "Cuban Overture" by George Gershwin, "Overture to Candide" by Leonard Bernstein, "Serenade in E-flat" by W. A. Mozart, "March from Symphonic Metamorphosis" by Paul Hindemith and two different settings of hymn tunes, one by Donald Grantham and the other by David Gillingham.

The concert will also serve as the home performance of the ASU Wind Ensemble before leaving for a tour of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The ensemble will perform for seven different high schools in the area over a three-day period.

Conducting the Wind Ensemble is Dr. David Scott, director of bands and interim head of the ASU Department of Art and Music. Joining Dr. Scott on the podium will be Dr. Douglas Overmier, ASU's assistant director of bands.

The ASU Wind Ensemble consists of 42 of the finest instrumentalists on campus. Students from several majors are represented, including elementary education, accounting, biology, animal science, computer science and music.
