ASU Library Friends Schedule Benefit Book Sale Jan. 26

Friends of the Porter Henderson Library and West Texas Collection will hold a benefit book sale Saturday, Jan. 26, featuring a selection of Texana, paperbacks, hardbacks, genealogy materials and magazines.

The book sale is scheduled 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Fellowship Hall of the College Hills Baptist Church at 2102 Johnson St.

The money raised from the sale will benefit the Porter Henderson Library and the West Texas Collection on the ASU campus. Proceeds from previous Friends projects have been used to purchase new furniture in the library's lobby, to furnish coffee for students studying in the Library for finals each semester, to help provide receptions in the West Texas Collection and, most recently, to purchase the 1930 Texas Census for the West Texas Collection.

The book sales, said Suzanne Campbell, head of the West Texas Collection, are always fun and generally provide a few surprises. At the previous Friends book sale, Rex Stephenson of San Angelo purchased several books. When he looked through the books, he found a silver certificate tucked into one.

"One never knows just what you may find in one of the old books," Campbell said.

Persons wanting additional information or desiring to donate materials for the sale should contact Campbell at 942-2164
