ASU's Economic Education Center Receives State Award
The Center for Economic Education at Angelo State University has been recognized by the Texas Council on Economic Education with the 2002 Welch Award for Center Excellence.
The award is presented by the council annually to honor the Texas college center that best represents overall achievement in providing economics training for public school teachers.
Cheryl McGaughey, director of the ASU Center for Economic Education since 1997, said the award recognizes the center's commitment to and success in strengthening the economics education available in area public schools.
The focus of the Texas Council on Economic Education is to assist Texas teachers in integrating economics and personal finance into their existing curriculum. This is accomplished through a comprehensive teacher-training and professional development program that utilizes Centers for Economic Education in universities throughout Texas.
The ASU Center for Economic Education was established in 1975 and provides seminars and workshops to K-12 teachers throughout West Texas.
