ASU Calls for Teaching Excellence Award Nominations

Nominations for the 2003 Angelo State University Teaching Excellence Award are being accepted through Jan. 31 by the ASU Faculty Senate. The award is presented annually to three deserving ASU faculty members for their dedication to the teaching profession and for their outstanding academic, scientific and scholarly achievement.

The ASU Teaching Excellence Award was established to provide encouragement and incentive for excellence in teaching. While research, publication, administration or related activities may be acknowledged in the award, the primary focus is on classroom teaching excellence.

Recipients will be honored at both the ASU academic excellence awards ceremony during the spring semester and at spring graduation ceremonies May 9.

A plaque acknowledging their meritorious teaching will be placed in the Houston Harte University Center. All faculty who have held a full-time appointment on the faculty of Angelo State University for three academic years are eligible for nomination. The Academic Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate is responsible for soliciting, judging and ranking applicants. The committee will recommend to the full Senate the top ranking applicant and two runners-up.

Dr. Steven Harper is the chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. Application materials must be submitted to the committee and include: 1) a nomination letter from at least one sponsoring ASU faculty member or administrator; 2) current curriculum vitae; and 3) letters of recommendation.

The committee may solicit other references for further evidence of teaching excellence before making its recommendations to the Faculty Senate.

Nominations and all supporting material must be submitted by Jan. 31 to the committee in care of Harper in the Department of Art and Music, Room 236, Carr Education-Fine Arts Building. The 2003 recipients will be announced in April.
