Two ASU Faculty Receive Award for Paper Presentation
Five business faculty from Angelo State University presented papers at the 38th annual meeting of the Southeastern Chapter of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, and two of them earned the best paper award in the accounting track.
Dr. S. Murat Kara, assistant professor of economics, and Dr. Thomas A. Bankston, professor of finance, received the award for "Empirical Observations of the Bond Capital and Capital Ratio Multipliers." Meeting participants presented 187 papers in nine tracks and best paper awards were presented in only six of the tracks.
Other ASU faculty presenting papers included Dr. Sharynn M. Tomlin, associate professor of management, and Dr. Sudhir K. Chawla, professor of marketing, on "Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Stress Management and Coping." Dr. Tom F. Badgett, professor of marketing and head of the Management and Marketing Department, Chawla and Dr. Zafar Khan, professor at Eastern Michigan University, presented a paper on "What Makes a Good Small Business Counseling Session."
ASU faculty members also participated in other ways at the meeting with Chawla chairing the marketing track and with Badgett chairing the tourism and advertising session. Tomlin coordinated a workshop in "Internationalizing the Business Curriculum."y
The institute's Southeastern Chapter meeting in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Oct. 3-4, attracted 247 participants from 38 states.
