New Toy Provides Free Admission to Belle Basketball Game Dec. 16
Angelo State University’s undefeated and nationally ranked women’s basketball squad is teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to fill the stocking of the local Toys for Tots program and at the same time give Belle Basketball fans free admission to the next ASU game Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the Belle’s game against St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, will be admitted free to the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The game will be the second of two matches in the Belle Classic. Prior to the Belle’s game, Abilene Christian University and Tarleton State University will tip off in a 5 p.m. match. Fans providing toys will be admitted to both games.
Belle Basketball Coach Sally Brooks said, “This is another way the team members wanted to thank the community for its support and to help some local children have a merry Christmas. The players were all touched by how many youngsters stayed to get their autographs after the home opener on Fan Appreciation Night. So, the players wanted to do something in return for the kids and this is what we came up with.”
Uniformed Marines will be on hand before the Belle game to collect toys to be distributed as gifts to needy children in the community. Established in 1948 in Los Angeles, the goal of the Toys for Tots program is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to motivate youngsters to grow into responsible, productive and patriotic citizens and community leaders.
Individuals wanting more information on the Belle Classic and the Toys for Tots promotion can contact the ASU Women’s Athletics Office at 942-2264, Ext. 230.
