ASU Library to Close March 12 for Construction
The Porter Henderson Library will be closed on Wednesday, March 12, to modify the main electrical power panel for the building, which is currently undergoing a $6 million expansion project to add a third floor and renovate portions of the existing structure.
Library Director Dr. Maurice G. Fortin said the library would close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, and then re-open at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 13. He said the work on the power panel would require that all electricity be shut off to the building, making it impossible for the library to provide regular service on that day.
Fortin said the closure was scheduled during spring break to minimize the inconvenience to students, faculty and staff. He said the work had to be done during regular hours during the workweek in case special parts were needed or special assistance was required from AEP/West Texas Utilities, the electrical provider.
For additional information on the closure, individuals may contact the Library Director's Office by phone at (325) 942-2222 or by e-mail at Library@angelo.edu.
The expansion and renovation project will add a third floor to the Porter Henderson Library. The 40,000-square-foot third floor will free up more space for library uses on the existing floors and provide new space for the university's communications and honors programs.
The expanded space also will include the Writing Center, three computer labs, academic advising offices, library archives and storage, television and radio studios, and faculty offices. New elevators, fire sprinkler system and a new air conditioning and heating system are included in the project.
