Contributions Being Accepted for Tetzlaff Scholarship Fund at ASU

The Angelo State University Department of Modern Languages is seeking donations for the Hettie and Otto Tetzlaff Scholarship Fund from former students as well as community members who were touched by the many community contributions of the distinguished professor of German emeritus and his wife.

Dr. Edith H. Krause, head of ASU's Department of Modern Languages, said Tetzlaff's passion for language study, his interest in students, his free Saturday German classes for youngsters, and his zeal for helping others are almost legendary.

When he retired as head of the department in 1999, Tetzlaff created the scholarship fund to ensure that even after his departure he would still be helping ASU students majoring in French and German. Krause said that gesture was characteristic of his life as a professor and his commitment to the study of foreign languages.

Krause said, "As the costs of attending college increase, it is becoming ever more important that our students have access to scholarship programs such as the one established by Hettie and Otto Tetzlaff. And, just as important, it is essential that the value of these scholarships increase to stay in line with rising costs.

"Support for this scholarship program will help us to perpetuate Otto's zest for language study and his love for ASU and the students who come our way," she said.

Persons interested in contributing to the fund should make checks payable to the Hettie and Otto Tetzlaff Scholarship Fund. Contributions should be sent to Krause, Department of Modern Languages, P.O. Box 10901, ASU Station, San Angelo, Texas 76909. For additional information, call 942-2244.
