ASU Journalism Students Published in New Magazine

A classroom assignment in the magazine and feature writing course of Dr. Cathy Johnson, assistant professor of journalism at Angelo State University, has turned into magazine publications for seven of her students.

The seven were published in the April/May issue of the new bi-monthly magazine Tex Women. The latest issue, the fourth since the startup of the magazine, spotlights San Angelo through the work of the ASU students.

The stories are "Manuelita Richardson: The Barrel Race Ambassador" by senior journalism major Geeske Kambeck; "Oscar Ruffini: San Angelo's Architect" by senior journalism major Adrian Rosenthal; "The Cactus Hotel: Little Known Gem in West Texas" by senior journalism major C. Tara Trevino; "Concho Avenue" by junior journalism major Stephanie Cumberledge; "Life at Fort Concho" by junior journalism major Mehar Sidhu; "Lone Star State of Mind: Susan Gibson" by senior journalism major Lacy Jo Davis; and "Kid Travel: Art, Adventure and Astronomy" by senior communication major Chantal Russo.

Tex Women may be purchased in San Angelo at Eggemeyer's General Store and Jabberwocky's restaurant.

Johnson said additional articles by ASU students are scheduled for future issues of the magazine.
