Graggs Donate $20,000 to ASU to Benefit Library, English Majors

To reflect their love of books and Angelo State University, Dr. and Mrs. Perry E. Gragg have given two $10,000 gifts to provide book scholarships for English majors and to support the Porter Henderson Library.

Gragg, former head of the ASU English Department, and his wife, Marilyn, gave the first gift as a memorial to his mother, Lucile Pearce Gragg. They designated the gift to provide a book-and-supplies scholarship of approximately $400 a semester to a junior or senior English major.

"I have been proud of my association with Angelo State," Gragg said, "and we are pleased that we can make this contribution in memory of my mother."

The second $10,000 gift was given by the Graggs to purchase books and other library materials for the Porter Henderson Library. The monies are to be spent primarily in the humanities with a focus on literature and language, the areas that were the focus of Gragg's teaching career.

"This gift," Gragg said, "is a continuation of my desire for the library to strengthen its holdings."

Gragg joined the ASU English faculty in 1968 and retired in 1994 as head of the department.
