'Hedda Gabler' Receives Honors at Theater Festival

Angelo State University Theatre's production of "Hedda Gabler," written by Henrik Ibsen and adapted by director James Worley of the ASU drama faculty, earned 12 awards at the area Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) area competition in Plano this past week.

Excellence in costume design went to Annie Corcoran. Wray Crawford received an excellence in scenic design award. Additionally, three ASU actors Crawford, Shannon Lee and Caleb Stahl earned Irene Ryan acting awards.

The ASU production also earned awards for excellence in ensemble acting, honoring Crawford, Lee and Stahl along with the balance of the cast, Jessi Timm, Lisa San Filippo, Arturo Garcia and Kat Jaques. The scenic set-up award, the spirit of KCACTF award and the tongue-in-cheek the show must go on award honored the entire ASU Theatre Company of "Hedda Gabler."

Three 10-minute plays written by ASU students were read at the festival, and all received excellence in playwriting awards. These playwrights were Nick Covill, Brittany Robertson and Heidi Willis. ASU also received a commendation for the drama program's support of new plays.

Irene Ryan acting award recipients, student designers and student playwrights will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., in February for the regional KCACTF.
