ASU Bands to Perform Historic and Multicultural Marches
The Angelo State University bands, including the symphonic band and wind ensemble, will present marching pieces from five continents and 400 years of history when they perform "Marches in April" on Tuesday, April 19.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the University Auditorium, 2601 W. Avenue N. Admission is free.
The symphonic band program will include traditional American, European and Spanish "Pasa Doble" marches. The wind ensemble will perform both a traditional Russian march by C. A. Chernetsky and a work by American composer David Mruzek, in addition to several other marches, including works by Hector Berlioz, Richard Wagner, Henry Fillmore and Sousa.
The band program at ASU includes more than 100 instrumentalists from academic interests across campus. Dr. David Scott, director of bands, will conduct the wind ensemble and Daniel Smithiger, assistant director of bands, will lead the symphonic band.
