Vandergriff Heads ASU Athletics Fundraising
Jerry Vandergriff, Angelo State University's former men's athletic director and head football coach, has assumed a new position as director of development for athletics at the university.
The appointment, effective Jan. 1, was announced by Vice President for Advancement and University Relations Michael P. Ryan. In his new position, Vandergriff will be responsible for developing strategies and coordinating fundraising activities for the university's intercollegiate athletic programs.
"We are pleased that Jerry will continue his commitment to Angelo State University in this new capacity," Ryan said. "He has demonstrated his loyalty and dedication to this university time and time again and we look forward to his continued service to ASU."
Vandergriff's duties will include raising funds for special projects, operating expenses, scholarships and the Angelo State Athletic Foundation. He will report to the vice president for advancement and university relations and in coordination with ASU's athletic director, director of development and alumni director.
Until his resignation in November, Vandergriff had served as ASU athletic director since 1986 and as head football coach for 23 years. He originally joined the athletic staff in 1971 as an assistant football coach and has been employed by the university for 33 years.
