Workshop to Offer College Preparation for High School Students

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors will get a head start on planning for college and enhancing their experience by participating in Angelo State University's College Connection Countdown Wednesday through Friday.

Sponsored by ASU's Division of Continuing Studies, College Connection Countdown will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, July 6-8, and will provide a series of sessions designed to help youth make it through the maze of steps required to enter college.

Experts throughout San Angelo will share their knowledge and students will take field trips to provide them with hands-on experiences in money management, dressing for success and becoming acquainted with a college campus.

Topics will include building a high school/college portfolio, the importance of community involvement, writing essays to accompany college applications, developing essays for scholarship applications, and preparing for school, scholarship and work interviews.

Participants can explore ways to develop problem-solving and negotiation skills, search for financial aid, enhance their test-taking skills and explore career options. The workshop will examine the ABCs of tests, personality types, and how personalities affect learning and relationships.

Cost for the camp is $125, which includes instruction, instructional materials, transportation to off-campus locations, lunch each day, computer access and an end-of-workshop celebration. For more information or to register, call (325) 942-2339.
