ASU Choir with Orchestra to Present "Requiem"
The Angelo State University Choir will present its ninth annual "Major Work with Orchestra" concert on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Southland Baptist Church.
The concert, entitled "Requiem," is free to the public in celebration of the Easter season. The church is at 4300 Meadowcreek Trail.
This year's program will highlight prominent choruses from well-known requiems of the 18th through 20th centuries. Among the selections are favorites by Brahms, Cherubini, Fauré, Lauridsen, Mozart, Verdi and Rutter. The performances will include the expectant reverence of the opening "Requiem Aeternam," sobbing strains of the "Lacrimosa" and fiery terror of the "Dies Irae."
Boy soprano Logan Wright will be the guest soloist for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu," and members of the ASU voice faculty will also be featured. Dr. Pamela Lee, ASU's director of choral activities, will conduct the 75-minute concert, and several local symphony musicians will perform in the orchestra.
