One of the foremost civilian experts on the current military and political climate of the Korean Peninsula, Bechtol followed a 20-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps with seven years as an intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency. He has served as a visiting professor at the Korea University Graduate School of International Studies and previously taught international relations at the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Air Command and Staff College. He also speaks Korean.

A former associate professor of history at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Ehlers has also served as a professor of airpower history at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. During his 23-year Air Force career, he delivered more than 1,100 intelligence briefings on national security-related topics and authored more than 50 classified operations plans.

The first holder of the ASU Norris Family Chair in International Business, Elenkov has been involved in international business since 1984, both in industry and academia. His industry experience includes two years as country manager for Honeywell International Inc. in Sofia, Bulgaria, followed by two years as regional manager in Zurich, Switzerland. He has produced more than 130 publications, including research papers, professional journal articles and two books, Strategic Management of the Firm: An Integrative Approach and Total Quality Management: The New Frontier of Modern Management. He has also presented at more than 50 professional conferences around the world and chaired nearly 30 conferences or conference sessions. He was ranked as the second-most prolific contributor to academic research in Central and Eastern Europe from 1986-2004 by the Journal of International Business Studies. In 2005, he had the top-ranked article in the Journal of Management’s “The Top 50 Most Frequently Read Articles.”

An ASU marketing faculty member since 1989, Chawla actually began as a chemist for India’s Atomic Energy Commission, and brings that scientific research mindset to his marketing classes. His classes have conducted more than 400 marketing surveys for local businesses, including churches, sports teams, government entities and companies in the retail, banking and manufacturing sectors. In 1996, his class’ survey for Nathan’s Jewelers won district, regional and national awards from the Small Business Institute. In 2006, he was named to the editorial board of the International Journal of Electronic Marketing and Retailing. He has also published more than 40 business journal articles and participated in over 50 national and international business conferences.

Dr. Richard EvansDr. Richard Evans

Areas of Expertise: Special Education, autism, learning disabilities

Evans approaches learning disabilities with a first-hand perspective. He overcame two learning disabilities of his own, which helps him understand the challenges learning disabled children face. He has also served as the coordinator of Exceptional Education and Special Education Programs at James Madison University; as coordinator of undergraduate special education at the University of Texas-Permian Basin; and as a researcher and adjunct instructor at Texas A&M. His most recent research has been on autism.

Dr. Kim LivengoodDr. Kim Livengood

An experienced instructor at both the secondary and college levels, Livengood has taught all levels of mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics at both public and private institutions. She has mentored first-year teachers in a graduate-level teacher induction program and currently prepares ASU students for their first positions as secondary teachers. Her research focuses on fostering multicultural awareness through hands-on activities and identifying trends in multicultural awareness.

Dr. Shawn WahlDr. Shawn Wahl

Soon after taking over as department head, Wahl oversaw a change in philosophy in the Communication Department and a name change to include Mass Media, which reflects the convergence of old and new media as well as the rise of social media and the Internet.

Dr. John IrishDr. John Irish

Associate Professor of Music

Areas of expertise: Popular music, trumpet performance and literature

Following a distinguished career in the Air Force Band system, Irish joined the world of academia, where he has held positions at Wittenberg University and St. Mary’s University as well as ASU. At ASU, he teaches courses on the History of Jazz, the American Musical Theater and a Survey of Rock and Roll. He also directs the High Brass Studio the Brass Ensembles. He is the principal trumpet for the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra and founded Jazz Concho, a jazz sextet composed of local professionals. He also serves as a clinician/artist for the Conn-Selmer Company.

Dr. Sangeeta SinggDr. Sangeeta Singg

Areas of Expertise:  Counseling psychology, health psychology, alternative healing methods, sexual harassment

Armed with a wide variety of interests, Singg has researched everything from student personal responsibility, college indecision and non-traditional students to sexual harassment, child sexual abuse and family violence. She has also delved into the more spiritual side of psychology, studying the effects of music and food on mood and performance. She also has studied alternative healing methods and biofeedback. She has presented several of her research findings at annual meetings of the Southwestern Psychological Association.

Dr. Robert NalbandovDr. Robert Nalbandov

Utilizing his vast experience in international affairs and security, Nalbandov has developed and implemented programs in cultural fluency/cultural competence and security studies. In addition to his university teaching, he has headed a Cooperation Unit for the International Committee of the Red Cross, was a think tank directory coordinator for Freedom House Europe in Budapest, and has worked as a consultant and specialist for Booz Allen Hamilton, the Horizonti Foundation and the World Bank Group in Tbilisi. He was also second secretary in the Diplomatic Protocol Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has authored numerous articles and reviews in international relations journals and is currently working on his second book. He speaks Georgian, Russian, Armenian and German.

Areas of Expertise: Geriatrics, long-term care

A certified Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP), Dawson has an extensive background in geriatric care and research. She also instructs RN students at all levels in geriatric care and supervises clinical rotations at Baptist Memorials Center and its Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center. As director of the Caregiver Research Institute, she coordinates efforts to provide a resource and information center for older adults, caregivers, nursing home nurses and other health care professionals.

Dr. Scott HassonDr. Scott Hasson

Physical Therapy Department Head

Areas of Expertise: Anterior cruciate ligament injuries, muscle physiology, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscle soreness and fatigue, total joint arthroplasty

Since 1985, Hasson has received research funding in excess of $3 million from multiple entities, including NASA, the National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institute of Health, Department of Education and Proctor & Gamble. He is editor of the international journal Physiotherapy Theory and Practice, and is a manuscript reviewer for numerous other industry publications. His 57 peer-reviewed articles have been cited more than 600 times, and he authored the textbook Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Under Roden’s guidance, ASU’s computer game development program was named one of Princeton Review’s 2010 “Top Undergraduate Game Design Programs” in the U.S. and Canada. The popularity and proximity of computer gaming careers in Texas has led to his department being the fastest-growing department on campus. Additionally, he has authored more than a dozen book chapters, journal articles and conference papers on game programming since 2004.

Dr. Micheal SalisburyDr. Micheal Salisbury

Associate Professor of Animal Science

Areas of Expertise: Livestock management, sheep and goat industry, animal reproduction

In addition to his teaching duties, Salisbury manages the Rambouillet and Suffolk sheep and Boer and Angora goat herds at the ASU Management, Instruction and Research Center, and directs the annual ASU Meat Goat Performance Test. He has authored more than 150 journal articles, papers, abstracts, research bulletins, extension publications and news articles, and has made over 50 invited presentations throughout Texas and several other states. He has also been doing grant-funded research since 2001. He is active in public outreach through numerous FFA, 4-H and Extension Service activities as well as judging and officiating at stock shows and festivals.

Dr. Cody ScottDr. Cody Scott

In addition to his teaching duties, Scott oversees the range, grazing and wildlife management programs at the ASU Management, Instruction and Research Center, and mentors both undergraduate and graduate student research projects. He has authored more than 30 journal articles and has made over 60 research presentations at scientific conferences. He is involved in public outreach through numerous FFA, 4-H and Extension Service activities, and is active in local, regional and state natural resource conservation initiatives.
