Fraternity Common Questions

What sorts of things will we be doing during recruitment?

During recruitment you will be participating in a wide variety of activities. All of our activities are designed to give you the chance to meet the fraternity men on a one-to-one basis. You will be given a lot of information about the Greek system and the individual chapters. You will learn about their academic programs, community service projects, brotherhood events and all the leadership opportunities available to you within the chapters. In addition, you will have the chance to ask any specific questions you may have. This is the chance for you to see what Greek life has to offer you!

Is there a cost to participate in recruitment?

There is no cost to participate in recruitment as long as you attend all sanctioned recruitment events. Men who do not participate in the recruitment process and accept a bid to join a fraternity prior to recruitment orientation or after bid day on the following Friday will be assessed a $25 informal rush fee.

Do I have to attend all the events?

No, you do not. However, in order not to be assessed the $25 Interfraternity Council application fee you must attend all sanctioned Recruitment Events (Sunday Orientation and two of four chapters' parties). If you miss one of these events you will be required to pay the $25 application fee.

What happens if I am unable to attend an event?

If you are unable to attend an event, but are still interested in recruitment, your regrets will be sent to the chapters. It is at the chapter's discretion to extend an invitation to you after the formal recruitment process. You will be assessed the $25 informal rush fee.

Is there a grade point average (GPA) requirement?

In order to pledge an Angelo State University fraternity you must have a minimum grade point average of 2.25 (current ASU GPA or transfer GPA). First semester freshmen (no college credit) must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (based on high school transcripts).

If you do not have the grade point average required to pledge a fraternity but are interested in learning more about Greek Life, you are still invited to participate in fraternity recruitment.

What is the $25 informal rush fee used for?

The application fee is used by the Interfraternity Council for various programs and activities, including hiring officials from University Recreation and Intramurals to officiate IFC sporting events. In addition, the application fee helps offset the cost of formal recruitment for the fraternities.
