Sorority Common Questions
What sorts of things will we be doing during recruitment?
During recruitment you will be participating in a wide variety of activities. All of our activities are designed to give you the chance to meet the sorority women on a one-to-one basis. You will be given a lot of information about the Greek system and the individual chapters. You'll learn about their academic programs, community service projects, sisterhood events and all the leadership opportunities available to you within the chapters. In addition, you will have the chance to ask any specific questions you may have. This is the chance for you to see what Greek Life has to offer you!
Do I have to attend all the events?
Recruitment Orientation and the 1st Round Event are the only activities that are mandatory if a woman wants to be considered for membership. All other events are by invitation only. Women participating in recruitment may accept or decline any invitations they receive. By accepting an invitation, a woman indicates her further interest in a sorority. We encourage all participants to accept all invitations they may receive, in order to get a better understanding of the Greek system and the individual chapters. At any point in the process, a woman may withdraw from recruitment.
What happens if I am unable to attend an event?
If you are unable to attend an event, but are still interested in recruitment, your regrets will be sent to the chapter in which you received an invitation. It is at the chapter's discretion to extend another invitation or to remove you from their membership selection process.
Is there a grade point average (GPA) requirement?
In order to pledge an Angelo State University sorority you must have
a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (current ASU GPA or transfer GPA).
First semester freshmen (no college credit) must have a minimum grade
point average of 2.8 (based on high school transcripts).
If you do not have the grade point average required to pledge a
sorority but are interested in learning more about Greek Life, you are
still invited to participate in recruitment.
Do I need to submit letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation is a practice used by many sororities at different schools. Angelo State University's sororities do not require letters of recommendation. The chapters welcome the opportunity to get to know you through personal interaction. If you would like to submit a letter of recommendation, we would be more than happy to attach a copy to your application and make sure each of the chapters receives it. However, letters of recommendation will not affect your membership into a chapter or your recruitment experience.
What should I talk about?
The members of our chapters are very excited about meeting you! They want to know all about you, your interests, where you are from, why you chose Angelo State University and most importantly, why you are considering joining a Greek organization! Let your true colors come out!
What do I wear?
Wear clothes that reflect your personality. The chapters are interested in seeing the real you! Below you will find some suggestions to help you determine the appropriate type of clothing to wear at each recruitment event.
