Co-Curricular Transcript
What is a Co-Curricular Transcript?
The Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT) is a formal record of a student's co-curricular activities during their time at Angelo State University. The CCT documents student learning in the co-curricular classroom and will show students' experiences both on and off campus.
Why Have A CCT?
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers 2005 Job Outlook, the top 10 qualities / skills employers look for are:
- Communication Skills (verbal and written)
- Honesty / Integrity
- Interpersonal Skills (relate well with others)
- Strong Work Ethic
- Teamwork Skills (work well with others)
- Analytical Skills
- Motivation / Initiative
- Flexibility / Adaptability
- Computer Skills
- Detail-oriented
These skills, in addition to a variety of others, can be obtained through participation in co-curricular activities. Employers describe the work world today as a "me incorporated" environment - an environment in which you must constantly work to market yourself. Research has shown that students spend 85% of their time in college outside of the classroom. The CCT is a chance for students to show what they have been doing outside of the classroom and supplement job applications since not all information will fit on a resume.
Categories
- Leadership Involvement
Co-curricular activities in which a student has become actively involved during college are considered leadership involvement. Any leadership positions held should be included in this category. Examples include participation in activities such as the Program Council, Student Government Association, foreign language club, school newspaper, or Greek involvement. - Honors, Awards & Recognition
Awards a student received for service to an organization would be included in this category. Academic and / or community recognition(s) should also be included. - Professional or Educational Development
Opportunities such as conferences, workshops, leadership seminars, training sessions, etc., that enhance a student professionally should be included in this category. - Community / Volunteer Services
Most work that provides a service to others is considered community / volunteer work. Examples include working at a hospital, a local humane society, a soup kitchen, or Habitat For Humanity. Students will need to provide the name of the agency and an agency contact who can verify such service.
Make The Most of a CCT
- Keep track of all co-curricular activities you are involved in, as well as the specific skills developed and the name of a contact person (advisor, coach, community service supervisor, etc.).
- When completing the validation form, be as specific as possible when listing the skills gained. Remember - something that seems unimportant to you may be very important to a potential employer.
- Make sure adequate time is given for the forms to be processed. Validation forms should be turned in to the advisor well ahead of when it needs to be turned in so they have time to review and sign the forms.
- Provide the most accurate information possible. Information will be reviewed and validated by University or community officials. Each transcript will be an official document, so it needs to be a true representation of the skills gained through involvement in co-curricular activities.
The Process
Step 1
Submit a completed application for a CCT to the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) located in the Garden Level of the University Center.
Once your file has been established in the CSI, you can begin the process to have your CCT developed. Complete a CCT validation form for each activity or honor you want included on your CCT. You will need to obtain a signature from an official who can verify your participation in the activity or honor.
Step 3
Complete a CCT request form. Students will have the option of picking up their transcript from the CSI or having their transcript mailed to them.
Step 4 (if necessary)
If any change has occurred in an activity, a CCT correction form is available. Students will be able to indicate the changes and request their CCT be updated.
