Tips for e-Learning Students

Here are some suggestions to help you be a more successful e-learner:

  1. Be able to use the technology properly. Find out in advance of taking the course what computer skills you are expected to have.

  2. Pay careful attention to instructions and be certain that you understand what is being asked when submitting assignments.

  3. Be aware of the course schedule and course deadlines and stay on track: Don't procrastinate!

  4. Set interim goals and deadlines for yourself, and stick to them.

  5. Keep in contact with your instructor and be willing to initiate a call or personal email if you need assistance.

  6. Become comfortable with expressing yourself in writing as this is how most online communication occurs.

  7. Avoid distractions and interruptions. Dedicate a time and place to work on the course and stick to it.

  8. Use resources available to you, including online help, tutorials, manuals, course syllabi, assignment directions, and the internet.

  9. Be willing to share your experiences as part of the learning process through online discussions.

  10. Know that high quality learning can take place without going to a traditional classroom.
