Blackboard Training Session Descriptions


 Blackboard Getting Started

In this session, you will learn all the basic elements of Blackboard, such as how to log in, locate the courses you are teaching, explore the Blackboard tabs, customize your course, make the course available and copy content from previous semesters. Upon completion of this course, you, as the instructor, will be able to:

  • Log in to Blackboard
  • Navigate the content tabs
  • Make courses available
  • Customize a course

 Blackboard Testing

Recommended Prerequisite: Blackboard Getting Started

In this class, you will learn how to create, deploy and grade Blackboard tests. The course will also cover other testing tools, such as Respondus and SecureExam (Vincent Building Testing Center). Upon completion of this course, you, as the instructor, will be able to:

  • Create and deploy regular Blackboard tests
  • Create a test using Respondus
  • Deploy tests using the LockDown Browser
  • Navigate to SecureExam

 Blackboard Grade Center

Recommended Prerequisite: Blackboard Getting Started

In this class, you will learn how to manage the Grade Center. This course will cover creating calculated columns, such as average, total and weighted total. Class discussion will cover creating categories and weighting by category. Creating smart views and reports will also be discussed. Upon completion of this course, you, as the instructor, will be able to:

  • Create columns
  • Create categories
  • Create smart views
  • Create reports
  • Download the Grade Center

 Blackboard Adding Rich Content

Recommended Prerequisite: Blackboard Getting Started

In this class, you will learn how to add “rich” content to your Blackboard course. The different types of media content that will be discussed include audio/video podcasts, Panopto presentations and linking to YouTube or other video content. Upon completion of this course, you, as the instructor, will be able to:

  • Create and upload audio/video podcasts
  • Create and deploy Panopto presentations
  • Link to other media from inside of Blackboard

 Blackboard Communication Tools

Recommended Prerequisite: Blackboard Getting Started

In this class, you will learn how to use the Blackboard Communication Tools. Tools you will learn about include collaboration, blogs, discussion boards, journals and Wimba Pronto. Each of these tools allows instructors to create collaborative online learning environments. Upon completion of this course, you, as the instructor, will be able to:

  • Open a collaboration session
  • Create and grade blogs, discussion board threads/forums and journals
  • Open and host a Wimba Pronto Session
