The Application Process
1. Submit the following forms to the Financial Aid Office:- University Application for Financial Aid (UAPP) - The UAPP is required if you are aplying for grants, loans, Work-Study, and/or the General Scholarships awarded through the Financial Aid Office.
- Student Aid Report (SAR) - The SAR will be mailed to you by the federal processor as a result of your electronic or paper submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA. Allow 2-4 weeks processing time for electronic submission and 4-6 weeks for paper submission. It is important to include ASU's Federal School Code (#003541) in Step Six of the FAFSA or the Renewal FAFSA to ensure electronic access to the information by the Financial Aid Office.
- Master Promissory Note (MPN) - An MPN must be submitted if you are applying for a Federal Stafford Loan for the first time at ASU, if you applied for a Stafford Loan at ASU before 2001, or if you are changing lenders.
- Pre-Loan Entrance Counseling - First-time Federal Stafford Loan borrowers at ASU are required to complete pre-loan entrance counseling. You may go to http://www.mapping-your-future.org/entrancecounseling/ to fulfill this requirement. Confirmation will automatically be sent to the Financial Aid Office upon successful completion of your counseling session.
- Loan Application - A loan application must be submitted if you are applying for a Parent Loan, Perkins Loan, or an alternative loan program.
2. Additional documents may be required if your SAR is selected for the process of verification or to clarify your individual circumstance. You will be notified if additional documents are required.
3. Approval for admission or readmission to the University as a regular student as well as the evaluation of any transfer hours must be secured from the Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions Office.
4. The above steps must be completed by the following priority deadlines to ensure eligibility determination for the corresponding payment period. Applications completed after these dates will be processed on a "first completed, first awarded" basis after the respective registration period ends. If the priority deadline is not met, the applicant should make other arrangements for the payment of initial fees. Applications must be completed by the last class day of the semester or term to receive consideration for aid for the given semester or term.
