Carr Freshmen Academic Scholarship Program for 2012-13

Available to first-time freshmen entering ASU in the fall of 2012.

With a Carr Scholarship, you can earn up to $3,000 per academic year just by continuing what you have been doing in high school: keeping up your grades and steering toward the future. 

As an applicant from an accredited high school, you must present an ACT (composite) or SAT (combined math and critical reading) score for the criteria listed below.

Carr Presidential Scholarship – Up to $1,500

All students with a 21-24 composite ACT/ 990-1140 combined math and critical reading SAT are eligible.

Scholarship Criteria Award Amount (Annually)
SAT = 990 - 1140
ACT = 21 - 24
$1,000
And if you meet the above test scores, one of the following:

For students with a 2.75 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

OR

For students ranked in the top 40 percent of their class

$500
Awards range from $1,000 to $1,500

Carr Fellow Scholarship – Up to $3,000

All students with at least a 25 composite ACT/1150 combined math and critical reading SAT are eligible.

Scholarship Criteria Award Amount (Annually)

SAT = 1150 or higher
ACT = 25 or higher

$2,000
And if you meet the above test scores, one of the following:

For students with a 3.25 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

OR

For students ranked in the top 10 percent of their class

$1,000
Awards range from $2,000 to $3,000

Admission to Angelo State University

When you apply for admission you are automatically applying for a Carr Scholarship. Your application materials should include:

  • A completed Freshman Application for Admission (The Apply Texas Application)
  • An official high school transcript with class rank
  • ACT and/or SAT scores
  • $35 application fee

Selection and Notification

Carr Scholarships are awarded only to students who enroll in the fall semester of each academic year, and the scholarships provide support for the fall and spring semesters. As an applicant, you will be notified in writing of the decision on your admissions application. Students may apply for admission and be awarded a Carr Scholarship at any time. As soon as you have been accepted, ASU will notify you. Decisions are final and not subject to appeal. You will be required to sign a terms and conditions document which will include requirements for renewal of the award.  Carr recipients are required to enroll in 15 sch.

If you have been awarded the Carr Scholarship, you must fill out the Carr Academic Scholarship Acknowledgement Signature form and return it to our office in order for us to be able to disburse your funds.

Angelo State may change the criteria and procedures for scholarship awards without notice. Although the Carr academic scholarship is only available to entering, first-time freshmen, transfer students are eligible for the Transfer Advantage Scholarship. ASU awards scholarships without regard to race, color, religion, age, gender, national origin or disability.


Carr Graduate Academic Scholarship Program

Carr Graduate Scholarships are ASU’s premier scholarships for graduate students. Awards are based on undergraduate GPA. Students are considered for the Carr Graduate Scholarship upon their acceptance into the College of Graduate Studies. No application is required.

Did You Know?

Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Carr were longtime friends and supporters of ASU. Prior to their deaths, they designated the Board of Regents as trustees of their significant joint interests in oil, gas and other minerals. The funds are to benefit deserving ASU students through academic scholarships. This public, charitable and educational trust has been designated the ASU Robert G. Carr and Nona K. Carr Scholarship Foundation and the principal of the trust is more than $96 million.
