Get Set Up to Use the Library
To get set up to use the library, you’ll need:
- An activated ASU OneCard or Faculty/Staff ID (so you can check out materials)
- An activated Technology Access Account (so you can access the library’s online resources).
Get an activated ASU OneCard or Faculty/Staff ID
Obtain a card by contacting the OneCard Office. (If you are waiting for your card to arrive, you can get a temporary ID through the OneCard office.) When you receive your card, you can activate it here.
Activate your Technology Access Account
Many people activate their account at orientation. You need it for most online services at ASU — and at the library, it includes the online databases and periodicals. To activate it:
Access Your Library Account & Renew Eligible Items
To see when your items are due and renew, go to the RamCat log-in page and enter your last name, Library PIN (the default is ABCD4321), and your ASU campus ID.

Instructors who have placed items on reserve for their courses can check them out from the library according to the following schedule:

Use Equipment and Facilities
Faculty Publication Display
To feature faculty research, the library accepts books and/or articles from refereed journals to place in our Faculty Publication Display. The display is changed before the start of the fall semester and includes publications from the previous academic year.
To submit your work, please provide the library with:
- 2 copies of a book: one for patron use and one for our display (which will be returned when the display is changed)
- A copy of the first page of an article, or its citation so we can retrieve it

Need a new space where you can work? A place to escape the interruptions from your office? Faculty carrels are small, locked private offices equipped with a desk, chair, two book shelves, Wi-Fi, and electrical outlets. Carrels are limited in number and are reserved at the start of each school year. For availability, contact the Library’s Office Coordinator by phone at 325-486-6521 or by email at Erin.Johnson@angelo.edu.
Print, Copy or Scan
There are 4 printers located in an alcove near the Technical Assistance Desk. They print in both color and black & white. Each semester students, staff, and faculty receive 800 print credits. Additional credits may be purchased if needed. The printing default is for black and white double-sided printing with a charge of one credit for each side of the page. Five credits are charged for color printing.
Two photocopiers are located in an alcove near the Circulation Desk. There is a 10-cent per page charge and these copiers may be used by anyone. The copiers accept coins and the OneCard for payment. For your convenience, a change machine and a RamBucks machine are located next to the copiers.
Scanners & digital senders are available in the Learning Commons. Three scanners are located among the computers along the south wall of the Learning Commons. One digital sender is at the Technical Assistance Desk and one is in the printing alcove.
Use a Computer or a Laptop
The Library provides several computers in various locations on all three floors of the building. Use your ASU network ID and password to log on!
Laptop computers are also available for use inside the Library. Bring your activated OneCard to the Technical Assistance Desk in the Learning Commons to check out laptops, headphones, cables, and other technology-related equipment.
Reserve a Study Room
The Library has seven Group Study Rooms, three Individual Study Rooms and the Presentation Practice Room, for student check-out. Due to their popularity, we encourage you to call and make a reservation.
The Group Study Rooms come equipped with Wi-Fi, white boards (appropriate markers are available for check-out at the Circulation Desk), and most have flat screen monitors to use with your laptop; making them a great place for study groups of two to eight people.
The Individual Study Rooms are the most private study spaces. These rooms come equipped with Wi-Fi. White boards will be added in the near future.
The Presentation Practice Room has Wi-Fi, a flat panel monitor, a white board, and a video camera. Use this room to record your speech or presentation then play back the recording to see what you need to improve! The Presentation Practice Room is very popular, please be sure to make a reservation.

In need of a quiet place to study solo? The Basement and Second Floor of the Library have Quiet Study Rooms. These are large spaces where you can study alone and undisturbed.
Library Service Locations & Other Features
The Library provides Wi-Fi coverage throughout the Basement, First, and Second Floors of the building.
The Learning Commons occupies most of the First Floor and is a great place to relax or work with classmates on assignments. Key features include numerous monitors for group viewing of documents and presentations, reading nooks, study booths, and the popular practice-presentation room.
Also located in the Learning Commons are the:
- Circulation Desk for checking out library materials, paying library fines, and general library information
- Research Assistance Desk for help locating books, articles, and many other resources
- Technical Assistance Desk for checking out laptops, cables/cords, and resolving computer, software, or ASU network password problems
- Common Grounds Café: a snack and coffee bar featuring Starbucks products
The Second Floor houses the majority of our circulating books in the “Second Floor Stacks” collection, as well as special displays of Bestsellers, Paperback Books, and New Book collections. Casual seating is located throughout the stacks.
Also found on the Second Floor are:
- Reading Alcove with casual seating overlooking a courtyard
- Desktop computers and a printer
- Quiet Study room with cubicles, lights and electric outlets

Research Guides are lists of high-quality online and print research materials. They are curated by librarians and are arranged by subject and by course. They are each divided into six areas: reference, books, databases, news, websites, and videos. Find them online, 24/7 — either from the Library homepage or the Research Guides homepage.

Prefer to work solo?
We created several guides and videos so researchers can learn the basics of academic research on their own. West Texas Collection
The WTC is the historical and archival collection of Angelo State University. It houses books, documents,
letters, photographs and memorabilia. It also houses the University Archives. WTC and Archives materials are non-circulating.
Located on the second floor of the Houston Harte University Center at 1910 Rosemont.
Hours of operation:

Students, faculty, and staff have access to hundreds of databases, accessible alphabetically or by subject. Check out our Online Resources page. Need help using one? We can help! Contact one of our reference librarians.
Search approximately 75% of our most popular databases simultaneously! The search will return links to full-text articles and e-books, as well as citations, abstracts, and catalog entries in RamCat of print and digital materials the library owns.
Blackboard Curriculum Builder/Reading List Creation
Faculty can create course reading lists with items discovered and linked from U-Search while never leaving the Blackboard platform. These lists can be used to supplement other course materials or could be used in place of a traditional textbook.

Copyright Clearance Center Assistance
Each faculty member is responsible for obtaining or arranging to obtain copyright permissions for classroom handouts, photocopies for library reserve use or online posting of materials. The Interlibrary Loans (Reference) staff of the library at Angelo State University offers assistance with obtaining copyright permissions through the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).
This service ensures that requests comply with Fair Use, the rights of copyright holders, and the current Copyright Law. All requests must be used for non-profit, educational purposes.
While the Library does not charge for this service, fees charged by the CCC must be borne by the requesting faculty/University department.
Place Items on Reserve
Would you like to make print and electronic readings freely accessible to your students for a class? Put them on reserve! You have the option of placing materials on Course Reserve or on EReserve.
Course Reserves in the Library
This allows students to check out materials at any time the Circulation desk is open.
Non-Library materials (like something you or your department owns) may be placed on Closed Reserve, which allows for In-Library-Use only.
Most Circulating Library materials may be placed on Course Reserve under one of the following:
- Closed Reserve @ Circulation (Print & CDs) loan period is 2 hours In-Library-Use only.
- Closed Reserve @ Media (film & sound recording) loan period is 3 hours In-Library-Use only.
- 1 Day Reserve @ Circulation (Print & CDs) loan period is for 1 full day.
- 3 Day Reserve @ Circulation (Print & CDs) loan period is for 3 full days.
To place items on Course Reserve in the Library:
Bring the item and the completed Course Reserve Request form (one form per item) to the Circulation or Media desk, according to item type.
This allows students to access materials any time. With E-Reserves you have the option of placing articles, personal items, chapters from books, and reference materials on reserve in an electronic format.
To place items on E-Reserve
Option 1: Bring the physical materials and a completed E-Reserve Request form (one form per item) to the Circulation desk.
Option 2: To do it electronically, you may submit the data and a completed E-Reserve Request form (one form per item) via email to Library@angelo.edu for processing by Library staff.
NOTE: The same Item cannot be placed on reserve in the Library and on E-Reserve.
* Reserve requests and materials must be submitted at least one working week prior to the date on which the materials are needed by students.

Request a Research Guide
Will your students be performing research this semester? Request a Research Guide for your class! Research Guides are annotated lists of print and online research materials that are curated by librarians to highlight important resources students will find useful in their course work. They are divided into six areas: reference, books, databases, news, websites, and videos. Linked from the library’s homepage, Research Guides are available online 24/7 and can be conveniently connected to courses on Blackboard.

Video Tutorials & Live Instruction Sessions
Will your students be performing research this semester? We recommend a flipped classroom style approach to library instruction. Students complete video tutorials followed up with a librarian led Information Literacy Workshop for active learning exercises using relevant search terms and resources.

For your convenience, our Critical Thinking and Research Skills tutorials are housed in Blackboard. Enroll your students in the Critical Thinking and/or Research Skills modules. Each video tutorial has an accompanying optional 5 question quiz.

Live Instruction: Information Literacy Workshops
We have scaffolded the Information Literacy Workshops to meet the needs of different courses while advancing student research skills and critical thinking. Typically, sessions focus on teaching students how to use general or topic-specific resources available in the Library, as well as critically evaluating and synthesizing information. We’ll be happy to work with you to focus on instruction that will be the most effective for your needs.

Reserve the Media Viewing Room
The Media Collection has a small Viewing Room that can accommodate approximately 20 people. Faculty wishing to use the Viewing Room for a class should contact the Circulation Desk at 325-486-6523 or via email at Circulation@angelo.edu to reserve this space.
Borrow Materials from Other Libraries
Get a TexShare Card
Access the collections of academic and public libraries all over Texas — get a TexShare Card! They’re good for one semester at a time. The card enables you to go to a member library and check out items from their collection. Find a member library near you!
On-campus - ASU currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff: bring your picture ID and ASU OneCard to the Library Circulation Desk, and we’ll issue you a TexShare card.
ATTENTION: Distance Learning and Dual Credit Students
ASU currently enrolled students who do not have an ASU OneCard may obtain a TexShare Card by following the steps below:
- Scan or photocopy your driver’s license and ASU ID Card on a sheet of paper and add the following information:
- your CID
- current mailing address
- phone number
- note requesting a TexShare card.
- Send your request via one of the following means:
- Fax it to Circulation Desk, ASU Library, at 325-942-2198,
