    Description: Digital Library portal for researchers in Astronomy and Physics, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) under a NASA grant.     Description: This database includes bibliographic citations for materials ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, as well as European dissertations back from the 17th century, to those accepted as recently as last semester. PQDT is the official dissertations repository for the Library of Congress and the publishing partner of the National Library of Canada.

    PQDT allows students, faculty, and other researchers to search for high-quality, peer-reviewed and multidisciplinary research materials related to their scholarly interests. Graduate students can consult the database to make sure their proposed thesis or dissertation topics have not already been written about.

    Description: The Defense Technical Information Center serves the DoD community as the largest central resource for DoD and government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today.

    All areas of defense research are covered, including biological and medical science, environmental pollution and control, and behavioral and social science. The collection also contains Department of Defense (DoD) directives and instructions, budget information, conference and symposia proceedings, patents and patent applications, and other topics of interest to the defense community.

    GeoRef: established by the American Geological Institute in 1966, provides access to the geoscience literature of the world.     Description: Created by the American Geosciences Institute with a focus on comprehensive coverage of the global geological sciences, its content is enriched by geoscientists applying current geologic terminology and latitude/longitude location data to individual records.     Description: Single largest compilation of Spanish-language newspapers printed in the U.S. during the 19th and 20th centuries, chronicling the daily life, cultural heritage and world views of Hispanic communities in the U.S..

    Reflecting a long tradition of Spanish-language press in the western hemisphere, these newspapers have played a vital role in the lives of immigrants, exiles and native Hispanic peoples alike. Often illustrated with photographic documentation, they reveal the rich history of a people who have long resided in and contributed to the American public sphere.

    For more than two centuries, they have united Spanish speakers and preserved their cultural heritage through news, editorials and literature as well as by providing leadership, solidifying communities and spearheading social movements.     Description: Searchable online collection of non-current issues (‘backfile’) of selected core scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals in a broad range of disciplines.

    The time lag between the most current issues of a journal title and the content available in JSTOR is called “moving wall.” It varies from publisher to publisher. The majority of journals in JSTOR have moving walls of between 3 and 5 years, but publishers may elect walls anywhere from zero to 10 years.

    Description: Covers a wide variety of content, ranging from physical education curricula, to sports medicine, to dance. Other coverage includes sport law, kinesiology, motor learning, recreation, standardized fitness tests, sports equipment, business and marketing, coaching and training, and sport sociology/psychology. Health education and physical therapy are also covered as they continue to become more prevalent in our society.

    Description: Online archive for Physical Review Letters, Reviews of Modern Physics, and Physical Review A–E. It contains all APS journal articles published from 1893–2009. Each January, another year is added to the archive.

  • Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 

    Description: Publishes research reports (describing the results of original research of exceptional importance), commentaries (which call attention to papers of particular note and are written at the invitation of the Editorial Board), perspectives (presenting a viewpoint on an important area of research and are written at the invitation of the Editorial Board), and colloquium papers (reports of scientific colloquia held under Academy auspices) on a broad array of scientific topics.

    Description: Released in 2004, this resource provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. It includes substance information, compound structures, and BioActivity data in three primary databases:

    • PubChem Substance - contains chemical structures, synonyms, registration IDs, description, related urls, database cross-reference links to PubMed, protein 3D structures, and biological screening results. If the contents of a chemical sample are known, the description includes links to PubChem Compound.
    • PubChem Compound - contains validated chemical depiction information provided to describe substances in PubChem Substance. Structures stored within PubChem Compounds are pre-clustered and cross-referenced by identity and similarity groups. Additionally, calculated properties and descriptors are available for searching and filtering of chemical structures.
    • PubChem BioAssay - contains bioactivity screens of chemical substances described in PubChem Substance. It provides searchable descriptions of each bioassay, including descriptions of the conditions and readouts specific to that screening procedure.

    Results are displayed in three category pages: substance, compound, and BioAssay pages. They provide rich cross links to each PubChem database, other NCBI databases, and depositor’s databases. PubChem also provides a fast chemical structure similarity search tool.
