  • More than 30 Federal agencies formed a working group in 1997 to make hundreds of federally supported teaching and learning resources easier to find. The result of that work is the FREE web site. Subjects include: arts, educational technology, foreign languages, health, language arts, mathematics, physical education, science, social studies, and vocational education.

  • Brought to you by USA.gov, Kids.gov is the official kids’ portal for the U.S. government linking kids, parents and teachers to information and services on the web from government agencies, schools, and educational organizations, all geared to the learning level and interest of kids. Kids.gov is organized into four audiences: Kids (Grades K-5), Teens (Grades 6-8), Teachers and Parents. Each audience tab is divided into educational subjects like Arts, Math, and History.

  • Brought to you by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Teachers’ National Park Service website provides resources from all 401 national parks. The site is searchable by location, keyword, and more than 125 subjects, from archeology, to biology, to Constitutional law. Teachers will, for the first time, be able to rate NPS-provided content. In addition to park-created content, the site also features educational materials created by NPS national programs like the National Register of Historic Places and its award-winning Teaching with Historic Places series of 147 lesson plans.

Atmospheric Sciences Trading Cards and Lesson Plans (Atmospheric Sciences Data Center)

  • Trading Cards are a fun and interesting method for learning about the Earth’s climate. Various aspects of Atmospheric Sciences are illustrated on Science, Mission, Data, Satellite, and Instrument cards, with an Introduction card to preface the set. Each card highlights important information that NASA uses in order to measure the Earth’s climate. Each set of trading cards is accompanied by lesson plans and activities for grades 5 through 8. Three sets are available: Radiation Budget Education, Aerosol Education, and Tropospheric Energy Education.

Coverdell World Wise Schools Lesson Plans (Peace Corps)

  • Coverdell World Wise Schools (CWWS) is an innovative education program that seeks to engage learners in an inquiry about the world, themselves, and others in order to: broaden perspectives; promote cultural awareness; appreciate global connections; and encourage service. Educators use these materials to teach subjects as varied as language arts, environmental education, and international economics. Teacher-tested lesson plans are organized by grade range (3-5, 6-9, 10-12), geographic region, topic, and publication title. Topics include Cross-cultural Understanding, Environmental Studies, Reading and Writing, Service Learning, and Social Studies.

  • The National Ocean Service (NOS) education team engages formal and informal education audiences to build environmental literacy through products and programs that incorporate the applied science of NOS. The team supports teacher infusion of NOS content into local curricula through professional development opportunities at conferences and through Web-based avenues.
  • NOS education provides formal lesson plans and classroom ideas that emphasize hands-on activities and problem-based learning using on-line data resources. These are correlated to National Science Education Standards and the American Association for the Advancement of Science Benchmarks for Science Literacy.

  • This site provides direct access to 165 lesson plans developed by scientists and educators during the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 Ocean Explorer field seasons. The lessons are geared toward students in Grades 5-12. Presented here as Web-based education materials, each lesson plan corresponds with a specific ocean exploration and can be supplemented with daily logs prepared by scientists and educators during each mission at sea. Includes images and video captured in the daily logs. Each activity is correlated to the National Science Education Standards and has Adaptations for Teachers of Deaf Students. Can search for plans by grade level, region, subject, or exploration.

  • Each lesson plan was created by a team of professional educators and renewable energy experts and uses information from one of the agency’s fact sheets as a starting point for building knowledge. In addition, all lesson plans are fully integrated with the latest TEKS requirements. Lesson plans are grouped into three age levels designed for elementary school (grade 4), middle school (grade 6), and high school (grade 9). However, the lesson plans can be used in other grades as well, or by parents and home schoolers to teach their children about renewable energy.
