Biology Library Tutorial

Library of Texas

The Library of Texas allows you to simultaneously search several Texas libraries at once, including RamCat, the Tom Green County Public Library's catalog TomCat, as well as the catalogs of the Universities in Abilene, Texas. (Selecting Abilene Christian University to search will allow you to also simultaneously search the libraries at McMurry University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, as well as the Abilene Public Library - for they all share one library catalog!)  However, be sure that you identify which Library owns the material searched for!  Moreover, just because another Library owns an item doesn't mean that is is necessarily currently available to you - a book may be previously checked out, may be in a rare books archive, etc.  If you find an item at another Library that you wish to peruse, we highly recommend that you find that institution's catalog on the Internet and search it directly to make sure that the item is available, or telephone the Library and inquire as to its availability.  Furthermore, be sure to ask about that Library's hours of operation!

You can also simultaneously search a variety of TexShare databases for articles in the TEXSHARE Online Resources category (different than the ASU Online Resources tool).  However, you cannot search all, nor even most, of the databases that Angelo State University subscribes to using this method, nor can you perform all of the same types of searches that you can by searching the TEXSHARE Online Resources databases individually.  Therefore, using the Library of Texas for a simultaneous search will only yield general results, and for more precise searching, you will need to search each database.  Remember, to search these article databases from off-campus, even using the Library of Texas, you will need to follow the directions on the Using this Tutorial page.
