Biology Library Tutorial

You now know how to use the catalog to discover if the library owns an entire item (a book, journal, magazine, newspaper, etc.), and how to find out if the Library owns a smaller portion or ingredient of that source, such as an article or chapter. If you do not find the entire item that you are looking for, either you have made a mistake searching, or the Library does not have the item! Keep in mind that the Library may not own very specialized or geographic specific journals that are not very relevant to the ASU surrounding area, such as the journal Tropical biodiversity. The library does have electronic access to a variety of journals that it does not physically own (more on this later), and can obtain articles and books that are not otherwise available. (Patience!) However, if you do not already have a citation for a specific item, how do you discover if there are any articles or chapters on your particular topic? That is the topic of the next section of this tutorial, searching Online Resources. |
