How to Renew Items in RamCat

Introduction

For information about how many times library items can be renewed, please check the Circulation Polices Grid. A renewal extends the due date for the same amount of days as the loan period. For example, a three week loan period would renew for three weeks.

How to Renew an Item Step by Step

  1. From the "Basic Search" screen in RamCat, click on the "Patron Info" button.
  2. From the "Login" page in RamCat, enter your library card barcode number or your Campus ID, your PIN, and your last name, in the spaces provided, then click on the "Login" button.
  3. Your contact information will be shown. Scroll down to the "Items Checked Out" section.
  4. Click on the ‘Renew?’ check box to the left of the item(s) you wish to renew.
  5. Click on ‘Renew items’. The information on the screen will be updated and a message will appear informing you of the renewal status.
  6. Write in the new due date on the date due slip of the item you renewed.
  7. You should check your user information regularly to keep check of the due dates of all items. Fines are charged for all overdue items.

Items that are already out on loan to you cannot be renewed if

  • they have been requested by another user.
  • they have been renewed by yourself for the maximum number of times.
  • they are overdue.
  • you owe an excessive fine, or your borrowing privileges have been restricted for other reasons.

After you have completed your renewals, click "Logout" in the menu bar so that your information is not accessible to the next person using the computer.

If you would like any help with renewing items, or if RamCat does not allow you to renew a particular item, then please call the Circulation Desk in the Porter Henderson Library at (325) 942-2051.
