Policy no. 13 - Honors Program Study Room

  1. Purpose

The Library designates a small study space/room for exclusive use by students in the Honors Program. The space is available for use during the time school is in session and is for individual study only. The space/room is not for group study or project work by a group. No other users are permitted in the room.

  2. Usage

    1. "Check Out"

Upon presentation of a valid student ID and verification of participation in the Honors Program, a Library staff member assigned to the Circulation Unit will issue the key to the HPSR. The student is responsible for return and safety of the key. The room must remain locked at all times. The HPSR may only be used when a valid user has checked out the key to the room. That individual is responsible for any misuse, damage, and/or violation of applicable rules and policies.
    2. Blocks.

Honors Program students having library blocks on their records will not be permitted to check out the key to the HPSR.
    3. Number of Users.

The HPSR will accommodate up to four users. If the first individual with the key needs to leave and others wish to continue studying in the room, one of the remaining students will need to go downstairs and have the key rechecked for his/her use.
    4. Time Limits.

There is a voluntary time limit of two hour for use of the HPSR.
    5. Closing.

The HPSR must be vacated and the key returned to the Circulation Desk 15 minutes prior to the posted closing time of the Library.

Wireless access is available in the HPSR. All electronic equipment that produces sound must be used with headphones. No cell phone usage is permitted in this area.
    6. General Use Policies.

All current Library, University, and Honors Program policies apply to use of this room.

  3. Lost Key

If a student loses the HPSR key, the responsible student (listed as the individual checking out the key) will be required to pay the cost of re-keying the door, (currently $150), as per the University’s “Key Policy”.

  4. Enforcement.

Anyone violating these policies or acting in a disrespectful manner toward library staff may be asked to vacate the room. They may also, at the decision of the Library Director or Honors Program Director, be suspended from future use of the room.
