Bulk Mailings
The University has a non-profit and bulk mailing permit with the Postal Service that enables the user to save money on postage costs. In order to qualify for a bulk mailing, the user must have two hundred pieces, and the mail must be generic in nature. Advertisements are prohibited in non- profit mailings; however, they are allowed in a regular bulk mailing. Below are additional guidelines to follow when preparing a bulk mailing.
Bulk mail must have the University’s permit imprint number in the upper right hand corner.
The ASU Post Office has a non-profit stamp you may borrow, or you can have the Print Shop print the permit for you.
Due to the processing time involved, we ask that bulk mailings be kept in numerical zip code order.
The department’s name, box number and the address 2601 West Avenue N, San Angelo TX 76909 must be in the return address portion of the envelope.
Zip codes of the mailing list must be checked yearly for accuracy . You can check zip codes by checking in a zip code book or checking the Postal Service Web Page for zip code lookup and address information at: http://www.usps.com/ncsc/lookups/lookup_zip+4.html. The ASU Post Office cannot be responsible for checking zip codes. Your dropping off a bulk mailing at the ASU Post Office will constitute acceptance and adherence of this bulk mailing requirement.
Bulk mailings are an inexpensive alternative to sending mail first class; however, because of this, the Postal Service is allowed to take as long as two to four weeks to deliver a bulk mailing. If the mailing is time sensitive, it is recommended that you send your mail first class.
Bulk mailings are processed by the ASU Post Office on a first in first out basis, and mailings may take as long as one week to prepare.
There are two types of bulk mailings:
- You would use the non-profit permit for mail that does not have advertisements in it.
- If the mail has advertisements, you would use the regular bulk mail permit.
If you have any questions on bulk mailings, please feel free to contact the ASU Post Office.
