P & K Dairy
Kathryn and Pete Gonzalez

In early 2005, Kathryn and Pete Gonzalez approached Director Dave Erickson of the Angelo State University – Small Business Development Center for help with putting together a SBA loan proposal in order to purchase additional cows for their dairy.

Pete and Kathryn have been in the dairy business for many years and have built up their dairy to the point they needed to expand their herd in order to increase sales. They also wanted to refinance some previous business debt.

The couple met with Mr. Erickson of the ASU – SBDC and discussed putting together a business plan. Mr. Erickson worked with clients over a number of weeks developing a narrative for the business plan and developing financial projections to be used for the with the business plan.

Pete and Kathryn were very happy with the work that Mr. Erickson did on their behalf. They stated, "Dave Erickson with the SBDC helped our business develop a loan proposal and a detailed business plan to present to a local SBA lender with the hopes of enabling our business to refinance some existing debt and expand the business with an additional 150 milking cows." They went on to say, "We greatly appreciate his expertise and help, without him we would not have been able to present such a professional and in depth proposal to our bankers."

This was the second time Mr. Erickson and the SBDC have helped the Gonzalez's. He had previously assisted them with a loan proposal for their father, Pete Gonzalez Sr., with a loan proposal to expand his herd. They stated, "This is our second opportunity to work with Dave and his office, and hopefully this venture will be as successful as the first."

The Gonzalez's were able to expand their business with the loan and create two new jobs for the local economy.
