Mr. Morty Mortenson and Ms. Samantha Braun, father and daughter, came to the ASU-SBDC with a dream and rugged determination. They hoped to open a deli like the ones they remembered from the east. Sam had worked in the restaurant industry for ten years and her dad was ready for a change in careers. Counselor Darcy Maloney began assisting them by putting together a cash flow analysis. Since they were still looking for a place to have their deli, the cash flow had to be flexible.
Sam and Morty were grateful for the advice given by Counselor Maloney regarding locations for their deli. Ms. Maloney gave pros and cons regarding each one. When the clients decided on their location, the cash flow analysis was completed. The pair obtained financing and began to morph the facility into the deli of their dreams. The remodel took longer than anticipated, but Counselor Maloney was with them all the way, stopping by to offer encouragement and even to proof their menus.
On opening day, the little deli was crowded; Sam even kept her young daughter out of school so she could be a part of this new family business on opening day. Sam says, "Darcy helped me and my dad achieve our dream of owning a deli together!"
