Environmental Scanning

The Environmental Scanning Committee supports the work of the Strategic Planning Council in its ongoing review of periodicals, publications, and current events and the resulting periodic evaluation of the extant threats and opportunities within ASU’s environment (see Current Membership & Scanning Topics).

The activities and time commitment of the Environmental Scanning Committee are outlined below.

  • Members select a topic of interest to them, either personally or professionally.
  • Using an established scanning technique, members review selected publications, websites, etc., and make notes about trends, issues, opportunities, and threats.
  • Three times a semester, the Committee convenes to discuss their findings and to identify specific issues in the environment (both internal and external) that can have a positive or negative impact on ASU.
  • The reports of the environmental scanning committee figure prominently in the work of the Strategic Planning Council by providing a context for the council’s recommendation.
