Revised Drafts:
Mission, Vision, Value Statements, and Master Goals
November 2008
THANK YOU to everyone who provided input during the first campus review of our mission, vision, value statements, and master goals.
After reviewing over 300 comments received from faculty, staff, students, and alumni, the Ad Hoc Committee has crafted the following revisions for your review.
After the Ad Hoc Committee reviews your suggestions in response to these drafts, the final versions (with the exception of the vision, as noted below) will be presented in early December to the President for his review. Pending approval, the new mission will be announced to the campus and will then be forwarded to both the Texas Tech University Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for their respective reviews.
MISSION
(What we do now: what we provide, who we serve, what we fundamentally strive to achieve)
Angelo State University, a member of the Texas Tech University System, delivers a wide range of baccalaureate and graduate programs in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional disciplines. In a learning-centered environment distinguished by its integration of teaching, research, service, and co-curricular experiences, we prepare students to be responsible citizens and to have productive careers.
VISION
(our “stretch statement”—what we want to be and do in the future)
The Ad Hoc Committee on Mission, Vision, and Value Statements recommends that a vision statement not be announced until after Academic Affairs completes its updated academic plan. Reasoning that the vision must be primarily academic in nature, connecting the vision to the dialogue between and among faculty about future growth and emphases in the academic programs is identified as the best way to create a vision that fully engages faculty.
