Angelo State University Institutional Accreditation Information
Standards of Accreditation
Angelo State University maintains institutional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges. The Commission’s mission is “the enhancement of educational quality throughout the region, and it strives to improve the effectiveness of institutions by ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community that address the needs of society and students” (from the SACS-COC website).
- The SACS-COC website provides an overview of guidelines and resources.
- Within the website, the Principles of Accreditation outline the standards by which members are reviewed in accordance with the SACS-COC mission.
Required Reports
Angelo State University participates in a decennial process of reaffirmation, with the next visit and review scheduled for fall 2012-spring 2013. Interested individuals can review the 2002 reaffirmation, visiting team’s report, and institutional response in PDF format.
Due to changes in Federal reporting guidelines, SACS-COC now requires that all accredited institutions submit a Fifth-Year Interim Report. Information relevant to ASU’s report, which was forwarded to SACS-COC on April 3, 2009, is available through the links below.

- Angelo State University’s Fifth-Year Interim Report. Our report will be reviewed, and action will be taken, at the June 2009 meeting of the Commission.
Substantive Change
A significant component of accreditation is the monitoring of and reporting on new programs and processes that may result in substantial change, defined by SACS-COC as “significant modification or expansion of the nature and scope of an accredited institution” (quoted from “Substantive Change for Accredited Institutions of the Commission on Colleges” policy statement)
Angelo State University is currently under monitoring because its substantive policy has been deemed inadequate. For more information interested individuals are encouraged to review the above-cited link as well as ASU-specific information:
