Information Technology strives to provide an enhanced technology infrastructure allowing secure access to an array of services for students, faculty and staff at Angelo State University. Secure electronic access to services allow students to register for classes, check grades, pay tuition and update their demographic information, just to name a few. Electronic mail, chat services, online testing technologies and web enabled classroom management services are facilitating learning and making student and faculty interaction convenient. You can tour the campus, meet the President, review the University calendar and current course offerings, submit applications, read the Ram Page (school newspaper) and browse the card catalog from any location in the world using Angelo State University's web services.
Angelo State University utilizes a high-speed switched network infrastructure to provide electronic access to information and to enhance the learning environment for the ASU Community. The network consists of approximately 7,000 nodes with 5,000 in academic and administrative buildings and 2,000 being utilized for on-campus student residents.
As part of the university's commitment to incorporating technology into the classroom, there are over 700 computers available for student use. The university has adopted a refreshment cycle of three to four years for all student use computers and peripherals located in student computer labs and specialized classrooms. Among these 700 computers, over 300 are located in general use computer labs with access to over 80 applications, e-mail, Internet, personalized electronic storage area and 24-hour access. Student lab assistants are on duty at all times to assist students with hardware and software problems. Almost 80% of classrooms are equipped with digital projectors and permanent computer setups.
In order to enable our customers to use all available technology, a technology help desk is open to the university community (on-campus and off-campus) to assist with technology questions and requests. Information Technology offers training classes each semester on current and new software applications for faculty and staff. A Multimedia Support Center is available to faculty and students who would like one-on-one assistance with multimedia projects. An online classroom management tool, Blackboard, is available to any faculty member and one-on-one assistance is available on an ongoing basis. All residence halls have access to the Internet through connections provided in the resident’s room.
As part of our partnership with the Texas State Data Center, Angelo State University has access to state-of-the-art hardware, software and administrative information services. All Angelo State University administrative applications, including student records, fiscal and accounting, payroll and personnel, library services, financial aid management and alumni development are processed at the Texas State Data Center. In addition to these applications, the Blackboard Learning system, and the faculty/staff Exchange system are housed at the data center.
