Welcome to the world of discovery.
Biochemistry is the study of chemical processes that go on inside living things. Maybe you’d like to work on cures for deadly diseases, create new medical advances or help protect the environment. If you have an inquisitive mind and want to make a difference in the world, biochemistry might be your calling.
In our wide-ranging degree program, you’ll combine chemistry, biology and even a bit of physics as you investigate the chemical nature of life. You’ll also develop your analytical and critical-thinking skills while you gain practical experience in research, chemical literature, instrumentation and equipment, and scientific writing to prepare for a wide variety of biochemistry career fields.

What Can You Do With a Biochemistry Degree?
Faculty Support
As a biochemistry major, you’ll receive one-on-one mentoring from your professors, and you can collaborate with them on research projects. You can also join our nationally recognized student chapter of the American Chemical Society to form even stronger connections with your professors, as well as with your fellow students and with industry professionals.
Grant-Funded Research
Funding support from the Robert A. Welch Foundation allows us to offer you expanded opportunities to conduct research with your professors, and then to potentially present your research results at regional and national scientific conferences. Participating in research will also make you a more competitive graduate.
Cutting-Edge Equipment
Biochemistry relies on quality equipment and instruments. We keep our labs and equipment up to date so you receive the best and most current instruction, as well as dynamic laboratory and research experiences. You will also have access to the SciFinder science article search service.
